The areas in which we seek innovations are those that are broadly within the mandate of civic agencies across India.

Basic Services - Water and Sanitation
This includes provision of water, waste water management services, sanitation, solid waste management, drainage, and other services that contribute to better hygiene and living conditions.

Livelihoods and Skill development
Creating sustainable livelihoods, self or wage employment, training and skill upgradation, improving work conditions, alleviating vulnerability, organising informal sector, and related themes that make direct impact on income based poverty.

Housing and Shelter
Affordable housing, low-cost housing technologies, addressing shelter needs, security of tenure and entitlement to dwelling, spatial planning approaches to address dwelling needs, and other related approaches that address housing and shelter needs of the urban poor.

Urban Mobility
This includes solutions for both – mobility of urban poor and those engaged in providing mobility of goods and passengers. This will include initiatives with non-motorised transport, operators of hired transport, connectivity, affordable and effective mobility solutions for all diverse demographic segments within the urban poor.

Primary Education and Preventive Health
Both these areas have direct impact on poverty. The area of primary education includes – infrastructure and service provision related to primary education, and adult literacy. Areas of preventive health include – provision of primary health care, preventive medicine and other public health related initiatives.
