What is Eco-Planning?

A new paradigm for planning our cities

With every passing day, the carbon footprint of our cities is only growing larger. In a fast growing economy, with development largely concentrated in its urban centres, remedial and reactive responses by public and private sectors alone will not be adequate. The 3Es - Ecology, Environment & Energytaken together with the 3Rs – Reduce, Recycle & Reuse need to infiltrate into the DNA of the urban planning processes.

But there is hope! In recent times, many city planners recognise the need to do much more than just being eco-sensitive or eco-friendly. Leadership in thought and action is emerging on how it is not just adequate to create sanitised eco-zones, but integrate these principles into the fabric of the urban plans on a larger scale.

IUSF recognizes that a new paradigm is emerging on the horizon of urban thought – well beyond research papers and seminar halls; project reports and drawing boards – as is gradually visible in a few handful projects and initiatives from cities across India stemming from both the public and private sector.

It is time to hear from you early birds of Urban Eco-Planning, recognise and celebrate your successes!
