Urban Marketplace

Capital expenditure underway in urban India is breathtaking. As per the Ministry of Urban Development, the investment required in India's urban infrastructure is a whopping Rs 1,200,000 Crores!

The Ministry of Urban Development, GoI launched Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) on 3rdsup> December, 2005 to bring focus on urban infrastructure renewal and development. This mission is a pioneering initiative for urban India and offers both exciting opportunities and challenges. Cities across the country are financing critical infrastructure projects through the Mission. The Mission has enabled 63 cities prepare Comprehensive Development Plans. With a plan to catalyze investment in urban infrastructure of Rs. 100,000 Crore, over 380 specific projects totaling Rs. 27,000 Crore have been triggered in 18 months of the Mission launch!

Cities now need to build the required capacity to plan and implement projects of the scale and complexity supported by JNNURM. Water supply, sewage systems, waste management, public transport, roads and bridges, affordable housing and all of the related needs will be required for over 300 million citizens. In order that these are of high quality and efficient cost, government cannot do this alone. Huge capital expenditure is invested by private sector in R&D on developing innovative products and services for public infrastructure.

The Urban Marketplace at IndiaUSP 2007 provides a rich bazaar for displaying products, services and projects. It brings together city governments and infrastructure providers to a common platform for exploring options, potential partners and business opportunities. There are three parts to the Urban Marketplace:
